What does kW mean?

A kilowatt, or kW, describes the power rating of a solar system. It is a useful way to compare system sizes. It does not tell you exactly how many electricity units the system will produce every day.

Start with the units on your electricity bill

One electricity unit is one kilowatt-hour, or kWh. Look at several months of bills to understand how much electricity your household uses. Air conditioning, water heaters and changes in occupancy can affect that use.

Check your usable rooftop space

Shade, water tanks, access paths and roof strength influence the layout. A larger electricity bill does not always mean your roof can accommodate a larger system.

Use a calculator as a starting point

The Solar Ray rooftop solar calculator uses stated assumptions to estimate size and savings. A final plan should use your actual electricity bills, a roof survey and your electricity provider's connection requirements.

Ask Solar Ray about a site survey to discuss a system that fits your home.
